The last few posts have been about Charismatic Leadership and how to develop charisma. However, I did want to discuss the dangers of this style of leadership as well. Although, we have learned that to be an effective leader, you should adapt your leadership styles to the particular situation that you are in. This goes hand in hand with this particular leadership as well. Being too charismatic may not always be the answer.
The article talks about three things:
- Leaders can become addicted to charisma: this means that people become to power hungry and become to confident that they aren’t capable of seeing the negative effects it can have on a group or organization.
- Organizations can becomes addicted to the charismatic leader: with this, the followers can become too dependent on their leaders. They can rely too much on the leader for direction and decisions.Â
- Charisma grows for its own sake and forgets its purpose: it is hard to separate the charismatic leader from the organization.
